Tonight I had the privilege of attending a screening for a movie my cousins wrote, one of them being just 14 years old. I was really emotional throughout the entire thing, mostly because of its focus, but also, because I couldn’t believe a 14 year old could write something so inspiring.
The movie One Voice is about teen bullying. It’s a short film, about a boy named Eric who is harassed at school for questioning his sexuality. That night, one of the bullies goes home, and like a sequence from A Christmas Carol, is visited by the ghosts of 3 boys who had ended their lives for being treated the same way Eric was.
Bullying is one of the things that breaks my heart the most. I could never understand why anyone would want to make someone feel so horrible. The movie ended with a couple of unsettling statistics. One that stuck with me, was that every 100 minutes a teen commits suicide. To imagine that things are that bad, that they think thats their only option, hurts my heart. This movie had such an incredible message. It showed that all you need is ONE person to stand up for you. ONE person to be there for you, even when nobody else is. When I get messages on Twitter about how i’ve helped someone, in any way at all, it means so much to me, because i’d never want anyone to feel like they’re going through life alone.
Make sure you use your voice to help others. Don’t ever let anyone feel alone. Your voice, could save their life <3
